Almost every hotel claims to be "near the Haram" — but near can mean two minutes or twenty. The honest way to choose is to think in distance bands, each with a real walking time. Raahi quotes every hotel by the band it falls in, so you always know what you are paying for.
Distance is the single biggest driver of hotel price in Makkah and Madinah. Understanding the bands lets you decide where to spend: a few hundred metres closer can mean a noticeably higher nightly rate, while a slightly longer walk can fund extra nights or a better room.
Use the bands below as your map. When we quote a hotel, we'll tell you its exact distance in metres and which band it sits in — never a vague claim.
- 0–150m — premium: a few minutes' walk, often within sight of the Haram
- 150–500m — close: an easy 5–10 minute walk on level routes, the best-value sweet spot
- 500–900m — moderate: roughly a 10–15 minute walk, lower rates, fine for fit travellers
- 900m+ — budget: 15 minutes or more, usually with shuttle access; best for longer, lower-cost stays
- Walking times rise in heat and crowds — factor this in for elderly pilgrims
- Every Raahi quote states the exact distance in metres, not a band alone
